Occupy Penn State

Our occupation stands in solidarity with the protestors at Occupy Wall Street (http://occupywallst.org/), spreading the nationwide movement against corporate greed to State College. Rather than representing the interests of the average citizen, politicians continually capitulate to the demands of big business. We are raising our voices to take back a system that unjustly benefits the wealthy elite, to show that the majority will no longer stand for thinly veiled corruption, to denounce the disproportionate influence of money in politics.

At Penn State, tuition hikes are making attendance at this land-grant institution increasingly difficult to afford. Our school was created to provide an affordable education for the working class, but our administrators have lost sight of that original vision. We will demand lower tuition so that Penn State remains accessible, as well as a transparent budget to see how our money is spent. We will demand that our school really remain the Pennsylvania State University — not become an institution solely for those with the money to attend.

We want our voices to be truly – not superficially – heard. We are the 99 percent.
