So what is Occupy, anyway?
The Information Working Group came up with the following answer to the ubiquitous question…
What is Occupy?
Lower Manhattan, September 17th. Hundreds of protesters gathered at Wall Street to denounce a system that benefits the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans with tax loopholes and bank bailouts — leaving the other 99 percent of us struggling with rising unemployment, crumbling...

Just had a lovely sing along...
A few people stopped by the occupation to sing the National Anthem. Apparently the word is that we’re unpatriotic?
We surprised them by gleefully singing along. I don’t know about other occupiers, but I never feel more patriotic then when I’m protesting!

General Assembly Minutes - 10/26 →
Travis Salters, the president of NAACP gave us insights on our movement. Come to our meetings to hear from organizations all over campus.
what-she-wished asked: Hi, my name is Amanda and I'm really interested in joining this movement (and bringing friends). I don't have a facebook though, is there an email list I could get in on or some other way I could find out meetings/assemblies? Thanks :D

Insights on Occupy Penn State
“Today’s insights into Occupy the Hub:
1. It looks like socialism and communism are trendy… again? 2. I wonder why most people that want to change the system look like the typical “free riders” to me 3. This might be the birth of a new kind of “movement”, where people without a clear purpose that realize that don’t have a clear purpose believe that...
Subgroups
We have begun organizing working groups, discussion groups, and action groups. Working groups help with logistics (not necessarily always doing something, but always finding someone to ensure it gets done;) discussion groups discuss problems, conduct research, and plan actions on the local PSU issues previously identified. Action groups are related to specific actions we have voted on and...

Occupy Penn State in the Media
Occupy Penn State will have an opinion piece running in the Collegian on Friday. As I write this, behind me, a group of us is collaborating on the piece. A photo – the faces of Occupy Penn State — will be running with the article. The Collegian will be taking this photo at the General Assembly, tomorrow at 7:00 pm, our usual meeting time, in the HUB. Make an effort to get here on the hour! We...

MoveOn.org
I was not able to attend today’s events, but I did make last night’s general assembly. Amidst the happy chatter that followed, I heard someone mention that MoveOn.org representatives would be present at an upcoming rally in front of the Allen street gate. I urge the Occupy Penn State movement to consider the problems that come with identifying our cause with an organization like...
Response to an anonymous criticism
So I was recently shown a letter that was dropped at our camp, and thought I would respond here, since I cannot respond to the author directly and I think it’s a criticism that needs to be put to rest. But first, I shall repeat the letter exactly as written in its entirety:
I understand your cause, but it seems like you hate all rich people. Is it fair to assume that all rich people got...

One of our members, Amanda, was lucky enough to attend a workshop on direct democracy at OWS. She posted this document that outlines what she learned there and how we can possibly integrate it into our GA procedure.

Join us tonight to learn about the Environmental...
Hear leaders from Eco-Action and the community group Groundswell speak about the movement to add an Environmental Rights bill to our community. If it passes, this will be the first Environmental Rights bill to ever be enacted by a popular vote in the world.
They will be hosting a meeting at 7:30 at our occupation.
Also, don’t forget our General Assembly at 7 tonight!
